Donna M. Ivey
Donna Ivey founded I-CARE Inc., Home Health Care in 1993 with the mission in its name. I-CARE Inc., initially provided rehabilitation staffing for other home health care companies and transitioned in 2007 to providing personal care assistance for clients of all ages. I-CARE currently provides services to clients in Northern Virginia and the Hampton Road/Tidewater region of Virginia.
Donna knew at an early age she wanted to make a life-long impactful career in the healthcare field.
She began to put her aspirations into practice when she graduated high school at the age of 16 and enrolled at Bowling Green State University with a major in chemistry pre-med. She later moved to Oklahoma to continue her degree in chemistry pre-med with a medical sociology option in 1982.
While in pursuit of her education and career in the healthcare field, Donna decided that the demands of family was her priority; therefore, she placed her education on hold until after she founded I-CARE, Inc. Home Healthcare and Rehabilitative Staffing Services in August of 1993. She then continued her education at Strayer University, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration, graduating cum laude in 2003.
In the 1990s, with the help of her husband, Tony, director of operations/vice president, I-CARE Inc. quickly grew to become one of the area’s top home care companies, specializing in neurology care. As a busy wife and mother of three, Donna incorporated all her children in the business. She says, “At age 14 they were each given a worker’s permit and a birthday cake and from there they learned many different aspects of business, ownership and management.”
She is very active in the civic life of Northern Virginia. She was president of and had several leadership roles in a BNI ( Business Networking International) and has also served as Chair of Commission on Health and Wellness for the Northern Virginia Baptist Association.
